Support of The Second Amendment
“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
There is no one any more adamant that Americans are dearly protected by the above inclusion in our Constitution. Although I am a doctor, I believe the fact that guns themselves do not kill people; people kill people. If we remove firearms from our people, the killers will find other ways to kill people and we turned average citizens into criminals. Australia, a free society, recently took all the guns away from their citizens and the result was the crime rate tripled!
The U.S. Supreme Court made influential rulings interpreting this amendment in 2008 and 2010, the first time since 1940. This Court ruled that the amendment pretexts an individual right unconnected with membership in a militia. It also ruled that the Second Amendment limits state and local governmental authority to the same extent that it limits federal authority. An ordinance, banning handguns in the home, was found to violate this amendment and so was struck down. The Supreme Court also stated that its ruling was not to be taken as an indication that all firearm restrictions are unconstitutional.
The Supreme Court has spoken. As the owner of a rifle, I relish the ability to keep and maintain the same firearm that I learned to use when I became an invited member of the FBI Citizens Academy.
During our gathering of signatures, I attended many gun shows in Ohio. I would ask those in attendance if they saw any other candidates, my opponents especially, and the answer was unanimous. They had not seen either of my opponents or heard of their attendance. Rob Portman says that he is a gun supporter, but he did not show his face at the gun shows. Lee Fisher tried to overturn the gun laws in Ohio by bypassing the legislator and using his power as Attorney General. He failed so rightly.
