Agriculture

“Cultivators of the earth are the most valuable citizens. They are the most vigorous, the most independent, the most virtuous, and they are tied to their country and wedded to it's liberty and interests by the most lasting bands.”
                                                                                        — Thomas Jefferson, Aug 23, 1785

Agriculture generates jobs and economic opportunity, creates new sources of energy and offers new foods and products to improve human health.

This translates into incredible opportunities not only for Ohio farmers, but the towns and small businesses these farming families support. The USDA estimates that in 2010 Ohio will produce 3.38 million acres of corn, up substantially from last year. And because of the innovation and drive of Ohio’s farmers, our yields are higher than the national average, much higher.

We must recognize that the labor of our Independent Farmers in Ohio is a major contribution to our economy. Today’s operating environment is filled with growing government regulation, an uncertain tax climate, intense international competition and volatile market conditions.

Our agribusiness community needs partners in Washington who understand the critical importance of its contributions and are willing to play a leadership role.

As Senator, I will work closely with the farmers of Ohio and those working in supporting industries to keep Ohio Growing!
